ABOUT JON CALHOUN

Born and raised in the Chicago land area Jon Calhoun was a four-year starting point guard for the Monmouth College Scots. Despite going through a tough two years while the Scots were in their rebuilding phase, Calhoun helped the Scotts enter the Conference playoffs for the first time in 20years his junior and senior year. Jon was able to walk away from Monmouth College with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology.

Post graduation, Calhoun obtained three more certifications in the health & wellness industry. He is certified with NASM CPT, Intrinsic Motion Level 1 biomechanics analysis, and American Heart Association child & adult CPR/AED, where he continues to expand his experience by using his education to help his community. He has several years of experience working with a wide range of clientele. From serving and helping student athletes with off the court & field performance development, working with the general public, to working with professional’s basketball players, Jon has provided customized training plans to fit the specific needs of each individual.

Spearheading his passion in helping others through fitness; Calhoun kick started his new found gift his first summer home after his first season playing collegiate basketball. Serving as a strength & conditioning intern under the well-known Chicagoland Catholic league & owner of JG Sports Performance strength & conditioning coach John Griffin, he observed, learned, and was able to lead both small and large group training sessions for middle school, high school, & college athletes under JG Sports Performance. After getting a taste of what leading sport performance workouts for young scholars consisted of, Calhoun took his new found skill and stepped outside his comfort zone to not only continue to come back home every summer to work with JG sports performance but also work with other athletes in the community as well.

While remaining relentless in growing within this new skill, Calhoun was blessed with his first opportunity in working with a full varsity volleyball team summer of 2016 before landing a position at planet fitness that following fall. Although being a trainer was the ideal goal during the time, Calhoun was given an assisted customer service assistant job versus a training position. Still not settling, Calhoun still worked with numerous amounts of people helping them accomplish their fitness goals. Whether it was during breaks or before and after shifts on the job, Calhoun’s eagerness soon landed him a position downtown Chicago that would be the next door in a larger network of health and wellness.

For three years, Calhoun continued his passion in serving as the fitness director for corporate wellness network; Lifestart. Here, three more certifications were added to the credential list on top of his bachelor's degree. For three years, Calhoun worked with hundreds of people in corporate which expanded his knowledge as a Fitness Director. Being able to work with a variety of people with different backgrounds, goals, health concerns if any, led Calhoun’s thought process about helping others into more of a mental and holistic approach versus physical appearance.

Moreover, Calhoun continued to help student athletes in high school prepare for their up and coming seasons. Sacrificing two-three days out the week to work with young athletes, Calhoun again knew that staying relentless in the routine and helping others would only grow from here. After three years of growth being a fitness director for LIFEStart, Calhoun transitioned out where he soon went full time in running operations for PIT Fitness development & training LLC. Although 2020 was a big year of adversity world wide due to the spread of Covid-19, increase in police brutality, and racial injustice, Calhoun again used this side of pain the world was going through to turn it around and still be a strong advocate in the Chicago land community by opening up his schedule to work with individuals on their health and wellness. Not only did Calhoun see significant growth personally, but Calhoun began to draw in and pour a lot of hours into his days by working with a lot of high school, collegiate, and professional basketball players in the summer of 2020. Although Calhoun began spending a lot of focus on off the court development for athletes at these different levels, Calhoun still remains to work with people on general health and fitness goals as well. Whether it’s an individual with osteoporosis and scoliosis or the individual who simply wants to lose weight, or just feel better about themselves in the mirror,  Calhoun continues to challenge himself by meeting each individual at their level and pushing them within means to reach their goals.

As a former collegiate athlete, Jon believes that fitness is more mental than physical. He loves attacking mental health by using that approach in his training style to be an engine in external parts of each client’s life. This along with a passion for helping others, inspired him to pursue a career in health and wellness. Jon is excited for the opportunity to work with you to meet your fitness goals.

“Don’t let nothing or no one stop you from pursuing and accomplishing your goals.”
